Medical grooming at Peach City Animal Hospital in Penticton is performed by our veterinary team for pets who need grooming with an added level of medical oversight and safety. Unlike general grooming salons, our medical grooming services are designed for pets that are anxious, uncooperative, or have underlying health conditions that require careful monitoring during the procedure. When grooming needs to happen in a clinical setting, we make it as calm, safe, and low-stress as possible.
Severe matting is more than a cosmetic problem. Mats pull on the skin, restrict circulation, trap moisture and debris, and can hide skin irritation, wounds, or parasites underneath. Left unaddressed, matting becomes progressively more painful and more difficult to remove. Our veterinary team assesses the severity of the matting before beginning and determines whether the procedure can be completed with your pet fully awake or whether sedation is needed for their safety and comfort. All dematting is performed with appropriate tools and attention to skin integrity throughout. No species restrictions apply.
Many pets become extremely stressed during nail trims, making the procedure unsafe for both the pet and the handler when performed without sedation. A sedated nail trim allows our team to complete a thorough, careful trim on every nail without causing distress or risk of injury. It is the right choice for pets with significant nail anxiety, those who have had negative experiences with nail trimming in the past, or those whose nails have grown to a length that requires careful management. We use a light sedation protocol appropriate for the individual patient and monitor throughout the procedure. No species restrictions apply.
A sedated shave is recommended for pets with very severe matting that cannot be safely removed any other way, for pets with significant grooming anxiety, or when the coat needs to be removed for a medical reason such as wound access or skin assessment. Our team does not use styled cuts. The focus is entirely on safety, comfort, and the clinical purpose of the shave. The length and area are determined by what is medically necessary or most beneficial for your pet's comfort and recovery. No species restrictions apply.
